i would guess there are at least over a million application forms filled in for the various x factor 2011 competitions around the world this year.
there is also of course shows like britain's got talent and america's got talent 2011 that people apply for, the britains got talent show is currently running its auditions, with the show being on tv in early 2011.

of course there is also the dancing on ice tv show in the uk that is on tv at the moment as well.
these talent shows which have the general public apply to get on and be a star or try to become a star, also reality shows like dancing on ice 2011, is actually just celebrities already who try to learn how to dance on ice of course, and is not a show the public can enter, dancing on ice is just for celebrities to begin with.

so out of all these celeb and reality tv shows, i think the x factor is probably the best as it allows the general public to enter and show there talent, also the american idol 2011 is the same premise as well as the britains got talent and america has got talent shows, the general public can enter these, and audition in 2011.
to apply for the uk x factor you can do this by going to the itv website and applying there and getting the terms and conditions and for the us version of the x factor 2011 i think you go to the fox tv website to apply online etc.
